“Appa” (아빠) means “dad” or “daddy” and is an affectionate, informal way children call their father. On the other hand, “apa” (아파) means “it hurts” or “I’m in pain” and is used to talk about feeling physical discomfort. So, while “appa” (아빠) is a word for family, “apa” (아파) is about being in pain.
