Korean couples often use a variety of affectionate terms to refer to each other. Some common ones include:
- 자기야 (Jagiya) or 자기 (Jagi) – This means “honey” or “babe” and is used by both men and women for their partners.
- 여보 (Yeobo) – Often used by married couples, meaning “honey” or “darling.”
- 오빠 (Oppa) – Used by women to address an older male partner. It literally means “older brother” but is used romantically as well.
- 언니 (Eonni) – Used by men to address an older female partner. It means “older sister” but is also used romantically.
- 내 사랑 (Nae Sarang) – Meaning “my love.”
- 귀요미 (Gwiyomi) – This word is used to describe someone who is cute and adorable. Couples often use this term to affectionately refer to each other.
