“Indigo” is the debut studio album of South Korean rapper RM of BTS. It was released on December 2, 2022, through Big Hit Music. It’s his first full-length project since “Mono” in 2018, documenting his experiences in his 20s.

Overview of RM’s Album ‘Indigo’

On a Weverse live, RM mentioned that “Indigo” serves as a musical diary and archive of his experiences from 2019 to 2022, marking a different phase in his artistic journey. It is a personal recount of his stories in his 20s as a person and artist.

RM was deeply involved in the album’s creation, from songwriting to concept development and even designing the album art and music video

The album consists of 10 tracks with collaborations from various artists including, Erykah Badu, Anderson .Paak, Tablo of Epik High, Kim Sa-wol, Paul Blanco, Mahalia, Colde, Youjeen of Cherry Filter, and Park Ji-yoon.

The lead single, “Wild Flower,” features Youjeen and was released with a music video on December 1, 2022.
A music video was also released for the single “Still Life,” featuring Anderson .Paak, on December 6, 2022.

Indigo initially charted in Japan with digital sales, debuting at number one on Oricon’s weekly Digital Albums Chart on December 12, 2022.

After the physical album’s release in Japan on December 10, 2022, it entered the weekly Albums Chart at number four on December 19, 2022.

Indigo achieved more chart success, peaking at number two in South Korea. The album received double platinum certification in South Korea on January 12, 2023, from the Korea Music Content Association and sold over 800,000 copies domestically by July 2023.

In the United States, the album debuted at number 15 on the Billboard 200 chart on December 17, 2022, marking RM’s highest entry on the chart to date.

RM sold 10,500 pure copies of the digital album in the US, earning his second top-10 entry on the Top Album Sales chart at number 10.

Eight tracks from the album, including “Wildflower,” “Still Life,” “Yun,” “Lonely,” “All Day,” “Hectic,” “No.2,” and “Forg_tful,” achieved significant success by simultaneously ranking on the World Digital Song Sales chart, with RM becoming the fourth artist to achieve this feat, following BTS, Agust D, and J-Hope.”

Following the release of the physical album in the US on December 16, 2022, “Indigo” reached its peak position at number three on the Billboard 200 chart dated December 31, 2022, with a total of 83,000 equivalent album units, marking RM’s first solo top-10 entry on the chart and establishing him as the highest-charting Korean solo artist in Billboard 200 history.
