To count the duration of time in months using the native Korean counter, you use 달 (dal). This is a more casual alternative to the counter 개월 (gae-wol).
Structure: number + counter
How to use 달:
- 한 달 (han dal) = one month
- 두 달 (du dal) = two months
- 세 달 (se dal) = three months
Example sentences:
- 저는 한국에서 두 달 동안 살았어요. = I lived in Korea for two months.
- 여행이 세 달 걸렸어요. = The trip took three months.
달 is commonly used in casual conversation, while 개월 tends to sound more formal or precise. Both are correct, but always remember:
- Use native Korean numbers with 달.
- Use Sino-Korean numbers with 개월.
