To express seconds in Korean, you use the counter 초 (cho). This counter is used with Sino-Korean numbers to count or describe the number of seconds.
Structure: number + counter
How to use 초:
- 일 초 (il cho) = one second
- 이 초 (i cho) = two seconds
- 삼 초 (sam cho) = three seconds
Example sentences:
- 몇 초 걸려요? = How many seconds does it take?
- 십 초만 기다려 주세요. = Please wait for just 10 seconds.
While 초 is less commonly used in daily conversation unless precise timing is needed, it’s essential for situations like timing races or setting clocks. Remember to always use Sino-Korean numbers with 초.
