To count floors in Korean (like levels of a building), you use the counter 층 (cheung).
How to use 층:
- 일 층 (il cheung) = first floor
- 이 층 (i cheung) = second floor
- 삼 층 (sam cheung) = third floor
In everyday conversation, you’ll usually pair 층 with a specific number to describe which floor something is on or where to go.
Example sentences:
Structure: noun + number + counter
- 저는 일 층에 있어요. = I am on the first floor.
- 화장실은 이 층에 있어요. = The restroom is on the second floor.
- 친구가 삼 층에서 기다려요. = My friend is waiting on the third floor.
Add the Sino-Korean number before 층 to specify the floor.
