In Korean, the word for June is “유월” (yuwol).
Why is June 유월, and not 육월?
Korean months are named using a combination of the Sino-Korean numbers and the word ‘월’ (wol), which means ‘month.’ However, June has a unique pronunciation. Instead of using ‘육월’ (yukwol) for June, which might be expected given that ‘육’ (yuk) is the Sino-Korean word for six, Koreans use ‘유월’ (yuwol). This slight alteration is made for ease of pronunciation.
