Korean Fun Facts: Korean Counters

To count days in Korean, you use the counter (il). It’s used with Sino-Korean numbers to specify the number of days.

Structure: number + counter

How to use 일:

  • 일일 (il-il) = one day
  • 이일 (i-il) = two days
  • 삼일 (sam-il) = three days

Example sentences:

  • 여행이 삼일 걸려요. = The trip takes three days.
  • 이일 동안 쉬었어요. = I rested for two days.
  • 일일만 기다려 주세요. = Please wait for just one day.

When using 일 for counting days, be careful not to confuse it with 일 meaning “work” or “one” (context will clarify the meaning). Always pair Sino-Korean numbers with 일.
