To count the duration of time in hours in Korean, you use the counter 시간 (si-gan). It’s specifically for expressing how many hours something lasts or takes.
How to use 시간:
- 한 시간 (han si-gan) = one hour
- 두 시간 (du si-gan) = two hours
- 세 시간 (se si-gan) = three hours
Example sentences:
Structure: noun + number + counter
- 영화가 두 시간 걸려요. = The movie takes two hours.
- 저는 한 시간 동안 공부했어요. = I studied for one hour.
- 저는 세 시간 기다렸어요. = I waited for three hours.
For durations, you simply place the number before 시간. Note that 시 (si) without 간 is used for telling the current hour (like 2시 for 2 o’clock), while 시간 refers to a duration.
