To count people in Korean, you use the counter 명 (myeong). This is a general counter for people and is commonly used in casual or polite conversations.
Here’s how you use 명:
- 한 명 (han myeong) = one person
- 두 명 (du myeong) = two people
- 세 명 (se myeong) = three people
Example sentences:
Structure: noun + number + counter
- 친구 한 명 만났어요. = I met one friend.
- 학생 두 명이 왔어요. = Two students came.
- 가족 세 명이에요. = There are three people in my family.
For formal situations, you might use the honorific counter 분 (bun) instead of 명 to show respect. For example, 한 분 (han bun) for “one person” in a formal context.
