없어요 (eopseoyo) is the polite present tense form of the verb “없다” (eopda), which means “to not have,” “to be absent,” or “to not exist.”
Here are some meanings and example uses:
To not have (used when something is not available):
돈이 없어요. = “I don’t have money.” or “There is no money.”
To be absent or missing (referring to a person or object that is not present):
선생님이 없어요. = “The teacher is not here.” or “There is no teacher.”
To not exist (used in contexts like absence of something in general):
이 책은 없어요. = “This book doesn’t exist.” / “There is no such book.”
So, “없어요” generally conveys the idea of something not being present, not existing, or not being available in a given situation.
