20 Korean Verbs in the Polite Future Tense

In polite future tense, we add -ㄹ 거예요 when the verb stem ends in a vowel, -을 거예요 when the stem ends in a consonant, and 거예요 when the verb stem already ends with ㄹ.

To conjugate Regular Korean verbs into the polite future tense using -ㄹ/을 거예요:

  1. Remove 다 from the verb (this gives you the verb stem).
  2. Choose the Ending:
    • If the verb stem ends in a vowel, add -ㄹ 거예요.
    • If the verb stem ends in a consonant, add -을 거예요.
    • If the verb stem ends in ㄹ, add 거예요.
  3. Combine the stem and the ending to complete the conjugation.

Rules for Polite Future Tense Conjugation with -ㄹ/을 거예요
Verb stems ending with a vowel are followed by ㄹ 거예요.
Verb stems ending with a consonant are followed by 을 거예요.
