네 (ne) is a Korean word commonly used to show agreement, acknowledgment, or confirmation to a statement or question.
Unlike the English “yes,” which directly affirms a statement or question, “네” aligns with the context of the conversation. It conveys that you agree with, acknowledge, or understand what has been said, making it more about being on the same page with the other person rather than just giving a simple affirmative answer.
For example:
- A: 오늘 날씨가 좋아요. (The weather is nice today.)
- B: 네, 정말 좋아요! (Yes, it’s really nice!)
Here, “네” is not just agreeing with the statement but also showing that B is actively acknowledging the comment and expressing shared understanding.
