하세요 (haseyo) translates to “please do” or “you do,” and is a polite, honorific form of the verb 하다 (hada), which means “to do” in Korean. It’s often used in greetings and polite phrases to show respect.

안녕하세요 (annyeonghaseyo) is a common, polite way to say “hello” in Korean. 안녕 (annyeong) means “peace” or “well-being,” while 하세요 (haseyo) means “do” or “doing” in a polite form. So, when you say 안녕하세요 (annyeong-haseyo), you’re essentially asking, “Are you at peace?” or “Are you doing well?” It’s a warm and respectful way to greet someone, wishing them peace and well-being.
- Phrase:
하세요 (haseyo) on its own can be used to ask someone to do something politely, like “Please do” or “Go ahead.” For example, 공부하세요 (gongbu haseyo) means “Please study.”
